How long does it take to train?

 

It varies, particularly if you're looking at becoming a volunteer, you do have up to three years to complete the Level 5 qualification.

What about my uniform?

 

Ambulance services will provide you with your uniform and any equipment you need in your role as an ambulance officer. 

 

How much will I earn?

 

It depends on the qualification you hold, the experience you've had, and the region you work in.  Typically, a recruit who holds a Primary Care Certificate will will start on around $35,000 per annum.  This increases as the officer moves up the qualification scale to the Advanced Paramedic level of practice which can earn over $55,000 per annum.

Anywhere in New Zealand in either a volunteer or professional capacity, these qualifications  are recognised as the national standard in the ambulance service in this country.

The ambulance profession is challenging and rewarding and is consistently ranked among New Zealanders' most highly respected.  Employment rates in New Zealand are good and the ambulance sector offers many levels of professional development which will move ambulance officers through to higher levels of qualifications and management positions.
